01 January 2008NuKorc fully compliant with EU Directives
On 2 April 2007, the Commission of European Communities issued the forth amendment to EU Directive 2002/72/EC (relating to plastic materials coming into contact with food) – Directive 2007/19/EC.
In association with the amendment, a positive list of approved food contact substances was updated. On 1 January 2008, only those substances included on the positive list could be employed in the manufacture of plastic food contact materials destined for the EU market.
In cooperation with Pira International in the UK, NuKorc instigated analysis of its closures in accordance with Directive 2007/19/EC. Pira International issued Certificates of Conformity for both NuKorc and NuKorc Fresh closures, demonstrating compliance with the current Directive 2007/19/EC and EC Regulation 1935(2004).
This certification to the current EU Directive provides confidence to customers that NuKorc is safe for use as a food contact packaging item. We believe not all synthetic closure manufactures will be able to provide such certification at this time.
