01 January 2008NuKorc slashes carbon footprint by up to 30 per cent
NuKorc is working hard to reduce its carbon footprint through its own initiatives and the implementation of the findings of an environmental audit of its operations.
The results speak for themselves, with the South Australian-based producer of new technology synthetic wine closures cutting its carbon emissions by up to 30 per cent, with further reductions to come.
“Obviously, there are environmental implications in the production of our synthetic closures” NuKorc’s Production Manager, Mr. Ingo Jerke, said.
“Given this, it’s our responsibility to do what we can to reduce them.”
NuKorc began “greening” its operations in 2006. Last year, it commissioned Delta Environmental, an Australian environmental, safety and sustainability consulting firm, to conduct a detailed audit of the inputs and outputs of its manufacturing process.
After the completion of the study, NuKorc successfully put into practice several key recommendations.
“Since 2006, we have implemented operational and capital alterations at the plant, reducing NuKorc’s carbon footprint by an estimated 30 per cent,” Mr. Jerke said.
Mr. Jerke said NuKorc’s goal was to reduce carbon emissions by a further 14.2% within six months. “It’s an ongoing commitment and we’re looking at other ways to offset our carbon footprint – that includes taking suggestions and feedback from our valued customers,” he said.
NuKorc’s range of extruded synthetic wine closures is 100 per cent recyclable and can be placed in the household recycle bin.
