NuKorc Fresh Technical Information
Specifications
NuKorc's'Fresh' closures are offered with two densities, Reference 1 at 45% and reference 2 at 41%. 'Fresh' closures offer the similar snap-back performance to Nukorc closures however take a greater compression set, and upon extraction this enables ease of re-insertion. For this reason, 'Fresh' require no chamfer.
Leaker Test
Ref 1 & Ref 2 'Fresh' closures were bottled with headspace 15mm, sample sets subjected to 24 hours at 35°C / 24 hours at 18°C / 24 hours at 5°C respectively. All samples demonstrated no sign of leaking or turning & closures were extracted within the specified force range.
Diameter
Taken from two different points on the closure, diameter consistency impacts upon both extraction force & OTR. The figures below demonstrate approximately 0.2mm variance in diameter across the sample population.
| Sample Size | Mean (mm) | Standard Dev (mm) | Tolerance (mm) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 21.84 | 0.21 | 21.6 - 22.4 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 21.88 | 0.17 | 21.6 - 22.4 |
Length
Consistency of length is demonstrated, with approximately 0.1mm variance in length across the sample population.
| Sample Size | Mean (mm) | Standard Dev (mm) | Tolerance (mm) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 37.07 | 0.10 | 37.0 - 37.4 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 37.02 | 0.08 | 37.0 - 37.4 |
Ovality
Ovality may impact upon extraction force. The figures below demonstrate approximately a mean ovality of approximately 0.4mm.
| Sample Size | Mean (mm) | Standard Dev (mm) | Tolerance (mm) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 0.36 | 0.11 | ≤0.8 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 0.38 | 0.12 | ≤0.8 |
Weight
Consistency in weight is important to ensure a consistent closure density, which in turn may impact upon OTR.
| Sample Size | Mean (g) | Standard Dev (g) | Tolerance (g) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 6.16 | 0.04 | 5.9 - 6.4 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 5.64 | 0.10 | 5.3 - 5.8 |
Length
Consistency of length is demonstrated, with approximately 0.1mm variance in length across the sample population.
| Sample Size | Mean (mm) | Standard Dev (mm) | Tolerance (mm) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 37.07 | 0.10 | 37.0 - 37.4 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 37.02 | 0.08 | 37.0 - 37.4 |
Density
Consistency of length is demonstrated, with approximately 0.1mm variance in length across the sample population.
| Sample Size | Mean (%) | Standard Dev (%) | Tolerance (%) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 44.09 | 0.81 | 42 - 46 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 41.10 | 0.22 | 40 - 42 |
Extraction Force
Extraction force is a measure of the force require dot remove closure form bottle. 30kg-force is the existing Nukorc target.
| Sample Size | Mean (kg) | Standard Dev (kg) | Tolerance (kg) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 26.65 | 3.53 | 20 - 40 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 27.81 | 1.66 | 20 - 40 |
Off Corkscrew Torque (OCS)
Off corkscrew torque is a measure of the force required to remove the closure from the corkscrew. Nukorc specification range is 0.5 - 0.9 Nm..
| Sample Size | Mean (Nm) | Standard Dev (Nm) | Tolerance (Nm) | |
| Ref 1 | 50 | 0.66 | 0.07 | 0.5 - 0.8 |
| Ref 2 | 50 | 0.64 | 0.08 | 0.5 - 0.8 |
Rebound (Compression Set) - after 6 months in bottle
Rebound is related to the re-insertion capabilities of the closure. A slower rebound rate will provide ease of re-insertion into bottle after opening.
| Ref 2 | Sample Size | Mean (%) | Standard Dev (%) | Re-insertion |
| 0 | 10 | 92.09 | 0.67 | NA |
| 5 mins | 10 | 92.55 | 0.51 | Easy |
| 10 mins | 10 | 92.86 | 0.44 | Moderate |
| 30 mins | 10 | 92.93 | 0.40 | Moderate |
Oxygen Transmission Rate
OTR is the measure of oxygen ingress through the closure. Low rates are desirable as oxygen transmission into wine will result in oxidation of the wine.
| Brand | Dimensions (mm) | Density (%) | OTR cc O2 / Closure per Day |
| 'Fresh' | 37x22 | 41 | 0.012 |
| NuKorc | 40x22 | 45 | 0.012 |
